There has been an ever increasing demand for clarity in how the various layers of SAFe interact with each other effectively, and as you may have heard before, "a picture is worth a thousand words."
I have started to use these two graphics to help my clients understand the idea of collective ownership; as well as simplify the definitions of SAFe work items, and now I'd like to share them with you.
When using the following table, the advice I give my clients is to associate any item in a row with all of the other items in that row. When you think of one, you should think of them all. I recognize that when you introduce Solution Epics and Program Epics, it gets a little more complicated, but it works pretty well for the basics.
But the real magic is in the image that my clients have universally said has made things clearer for them:
When you look at this collective ownership target, there's a lot to see. Each concentric circle represents one layer of SAFe, with the trio of roles that share collective ownership of the success of that layer. Additionally, when you look at each triangle wedge, it shows the "functional" areas of responsibility for that wedge and the clarity those roles are responsible for providing.
It is my hope that you can find these images as useful as I do. What do you think so far?
